Cameras need to start digitally signing photographs

AI driven image generation is not going anywhere soon, and continues to improve in realism. The potential influence of such technology for misinformation and manipulation is huge.

To determine if a photograph is real, digital signatures provide a means to assert that a photograph did actually come out of a specific device. This is not a silver bullet though, and there would almost certainly be vulnerabilities in devices or implementations that could be exploited to, for example, sign arbitrary images. Vendors would need to provide an accessible database of public keys and a means to allow users to use different private keys, else one could verify vast numbers of images using the same public key to find a collection of images that come from the same device, which might leak personal information.

I'm still cooking up this idea in my head; there are likely many issues to solve here.
